Sue won Stiwdio Maelor’s first photographic and artists film competition. The prize was a two week residency at Stiwdio Maelor.

Sue is a photographer, currently studying book-making and print at Spike Island in Bristol, otherwise with little formal art training. She has had several small showings of her work, in Bristol and Scotland. Sue loves becoming absorbed in photographing, and finding new ways to present and print. She also likes exploring interplays of image and text, often using her own poetry and song lyrics. She is intrigued by imperfection, silhouette, shadow, shape and poetic juxtaposition in nature and urban settings. Capturing the drama and intensity of changing light and colour wrought by sky, sun and water is one particular pleasure, which perhaps explains her growing love of the Orkney islands, where she spends a large part of each summer. Sue is looking forward immensely to her residency at Stiwdio Maelor in May 2016, and to discovering Corris and its environs. Sue plans to arrive with few expectations or plans, preferring to see what evokes response. While she is likely to focus on making photographs, the outcome could be images, books, writing, a combination of these, or perhaps something else altogether.
