This is Chris’ second residency at Maelor. In early 2019 she entered Maelor’s annual competition and though she didn’t win, the judge, artist Katy Helman, was very excited by her work and decided to part fund a two week residency to be offered to Chris.

Chris Williams was born in Rossett, Flintshire but now works from a small studio Hereford, alongside other artists and designers. She likes to take inspiration for her painting from the landscape, following the rhythms of nature, light and seasons and is interested in the continuity and change within the landscape.

Chris is also a member of an exhibiting group in Shropshire and takes part in open studio events in both Hereford and Shropshire. Recently she has been pursuing an interest in the Shropshire hills and an ongoing project on hedge, verge and field spending time over two summers drawing in a local meadow and using the research to make a series of paintings.
