Alex has been encouraged to practice art from an early age. Before Alex began writing she was drawing, and art classes have always been a part of her formal schooling. However, it was not until Alex found photography that she truly realised her passion for art. Photography is the first medium she recognised as fundamentally important to her life. This interest was triggered by admiration for the works of contemporary photographers and a fascination with the historical legacy of photography. It is sustained: however, by the nature of the medium itself. Photography is reflective of individual perceptions of the world we encounter and our existence within it. It allows us to access, experience, and construct alternate versions of the reality which passes before a lens. Alex’s interests thus far, have manifested themselves into a series of images and videos that function as a visual representation of her endeavour to understand her relationship to the people and spaces she has encountered, her own personal reality.
