This is Julie’s second residency at Maelor. When last here she was working on her memoir “Choosing Eros”, which had been percolating in her head for twenty years. Finally, the words embraced the page in the summer of 2016 and is now published and ready for everyone to purchase and read.
Handwritten letters, written between 1969 (when at age 11, she met my husband, Bill, a 35 year old Jesuit priest from the US) and 1990, are woven through the memoir propelling the story forward.
Julie lived in Newtown for seven years and it is where much of the story is set.
Julie is an English teacher in a Catholic school for girls in Cincinnati. She earned both my degrees (B.A and Med) from Xavier University, a Jesuit institution and have been teaching for 23 years. She is happily married to Bill and would like to finish this memoir during his lifetime.
Julie has been awarded grants for travel and study abroad based on essays; once going to Kosovo as a delegate with CRS and another time to London to study Chaucer in Middle English in 2012.
