As a graduate in Documentary Photography Patricia’s work explores the boundaries and the relationship between art and photography. Her interests relate to industrial decline and social change and she uses this as a source of inspiration for making abstract images.
The abstract work is informed by Patricia’s photographic practice which familiarises her with subject, colour and form, which she abstracts using ink and a modified process of Cliché Verre.
The focus of her M.A. project was a visual exploration of the interiors of Non conformist chapels in Powys and East Carmarthenshire. The images relate to time, memory, loss and absence.
The context of the project was the relation of non-conformism to the history, politics and culture of Welsh communities, a background of religious change, industrial revolution, social unrest, political activity and cultural practices many of which were nurtured by the ethos of non-conformist values.
Patricia’s most recent project was a commission for the Glynn Vivian Gallery Swansea, this was the response of nine women artists to the archives of the Dilwyn Llewelyn family, Penllegare, Swansea. The exhibition is The Moon and a Smile, 4 March-23 April 2017.
