Vanessa Van Cuthbert – England

Vanessa will be completing her third residency at Stiwdio Maelor.

Vanessa is a full-time artist working from her studio in Manchester, England. She primarily uses painting and printmaking, and has also been engaged with moving image and installation.

Vanessa’s work spans various disciplines and is contemporary in nature. She loves exploring and experimenting with her work, and is interested in combining disciplines. Her last artist residency was at North West Film Archives where she produced a body of litho prints and screen prints, some of which have been exhibited. One small print was accepted into the royal Academy Summer Show.

Vanessa makes work that is both abstract and figurative and her subjects are wide and varied. She is inspired deeply by nature. Vanessa is presently working on a body of figurative work which draws on elements of the countryside. The work was inspired by the images she produced on a life-sized Herdwick sheep which is part of a project for the Lake Distrtrict Calvert Trust. She is producing several paintings which celebrate the nostalgia of the countryside. She aims to follow this with some abstract pieces, acrylic, oil and monoprints which also celebrate nature.

Vanessa has exhibited widely and internationally and with recent work being shown at the Millyard Gallery in Upper Mill, Oldham. She also did a solo show as part of the Chorlton Arts Festival last week at the Edge Theatre and Arts Centre, which is local to where she lives.
