Yoga and Printmaking – with Jackie Grace, David Begley and Veronica Calarco

This special event brings together yoga and printmaking at Stiwdio Maelor Artist Retreat, Corris, in the Snowdonia National Park, Wales. The day begins with a yoga session guided by Jackie Grace, followed by lunch catered by Idris Stores and then a three hour group with a one to one demonstration and instruction of monotype printmaking methods and materials by David, assisted by Veronica. Participants will experiment with materials, and learn and develop printmaking skills in order to make their own unique hand pulled prints. All materials are supplied including paper, non-toxic ink, use of rollers, etching press etc.

monotype is an image painted / drawn with ink onto a surface such as glass, metal or perspex, then transferred onto paper using an etching press. As the name suggests, each work is a unique, hand drawn, hand printed monotype, printed on 300gsm 100% cotton acid free Fabriano Tiepolo paper.

David says; “Why yoga and printmaking? I wanted to give participants the opportunity to unwind and relax, to feel invigorated before beginning  printmaking. Yoga is a fantastic start to the day and the combination of yoga and art makes for a great workshop. Yoga also allows us to lose our artistic inhibitions, creates a great atmosphere and fosters creativity. I love these workshops as I get to enjoy the yoga also and the work produced on these days is always very special. Like yoga, anyone of any ability can enjoy making a print. Monotype is a generous and immediate medium – everyone goes home with beautiful hand made prints.”

Veronica is an Australian printmaker who founded Maelor in 2014. Veronica studied printmaking at the Australian National University in the 1990’s. She migrated to Wales in 2013 and is currently doing a PhD in printmaking at Aberystwyth University.
